This position is an integral component of the Staples Promotional Products’ digital eco-system, responsible for delivering budgeted sales and margin through staplespromo.com. Main responsibilities include developing and executing a consumer-centric business strategy in tandem with the Ecommerce Acquisition Marketing Manager. This strategy will be inspired by deep customer insight and market data, and will include assortment planning, supplier negotiation, trend execution and site shopping experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a business plan to achieve budgeted goals in sales and margin in a competitive digital ecosystem. Effectively partner with Growth Acquisition Marketing Manager to drive strategy, growth, category penetration and solve everyday opportunities and challenges with transactional website (staplespromo.com).
  • Acquire a deep understanding of customer needs through market data and field insight.
  • Develop KPIs, drive execution, analyze performance and inform decisions for merchant strategy.
  • Define assortment, establish pricing, and create an appropriate customer experience by using data and analytics to develop strategies and tactics to optimize site experiences while ensuring business goals are consistently met.
  • Communicate strategy to the highest levels of the company, ensuring plans align with company strategic objectives and goals.
  • Effectively partner with and influence cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Creative, UX, Ecommerce, Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Pricing to create alignment for overall business strategies, goals and driving results. Partner with key suppliers to establish first to market approach.
  • Drive overall initiative with an innovative spirit and mindset

Innovation And Change

  • Define a competitive product strategy to compete in the ecommerce promotional marketplace as well as blend the advantages and a supports the overall Staples Promotional Products strategy.
  • Coordinate Acquisition Marketing Manager to develop a customer journey from eccomerce through account management teams.
  • Anticipate market needs to foster innovative solutions beyond traditional promo products industry approach, collaborating with merchandising and supplier management teams to drive advantages. Support UX team to implement throughout site experience and translate into entire customer journey.

Communication/Interactions: Internal & External Customers / Suppliers as well as Third Parties:

  • Establish digital eco system strategy in tandem with the Category Merchant.
  • Effectively partner with and influence cross-functional teams such as UX, Ecommerce, Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Pricing to create alignment for overall business strategies, goals and driving results. Work with legal, design, and the broader cross-functional teams to ensure all tests are compliant and within Staples brand guidelines.
  • Communicate strategy to the highest levels of the company, ensuring plans align with company strategic objectives and goals.

  • Responsible for establishing and communicating the strategy with support partners.
  • Leadership and communication skills are extremely important as this role is results oriented, requires ability to create clear vision, balances feedback from key contributors with unique needs, as well as services various target audiences and segments. This role balances strategy with execution.

Qualifications

Professional Knowledge/Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
    • Minimum 6 years total experience in buying related functions (buying/merchandising) with proven performance of driving sales and margin results.
    • Proficiency in B2B and Ecommerce sales metrics and best-practices to optimize traffic, conversion, and ultimately sales & profit growth
    • PC literate with the strong abilities in Excel Proven
    • Demonstrated in-depth proficiency in financial acumen and analysis, forecasting and SKU-level assortment rationalization
    • Multiple category experience including large P&L management is preferred
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to influence at multiple levels
    • Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships across organization and with vendors at the highest levels Accomplished in achieving measurable result
    • Proactive communications; comfortable with assessing the need for immediate action
    • Exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
    • Experience with B2B KPI’s analysis is a plus

Professional Knowledge/Experience:

    • Strong attention to detail with organizational, planning and time management skills. Maintains a high level of focus and composure under time constraints while executing multiple projects and programs concurrently.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to an ever-changing eco-system
    • Previous project management or leadership role experience
    • 6+ years of experience in digital marketing role, desired experience in growth acquisition and demonstrated success
