Measure Productivity in Remote Working

Measure Productivity in Remote Working

Many companies were cautious about workers who chose to work from home.  Because of  employee efficiency before Covid-19 prompted a rapid move towards remote work. Today, almost half (42 percent) of the U.S. workforce operates full-time from home. With many business leaders considering making remote work permanent after the pandemic subsides in some way, they also have problem in measure productivity in remote working.

Measuring Productivity

If managers assess productivity based on whether employees attend virtual meetings or are available during traditional business hours to be on call, they can set their employees up for failure.

Rather than monitoring the amount of time employees spend logged into Slack or participating in Zoom calls, managers should focus on outputs and results. As long as work is done well and in an appropriate time frame (with consideration for the individual’s circumstances — this is crucial), managers must now give employees the liberty to manage their work and time.

Technology to Connect

If a leader is still new to managing remote workers, they may be tempted to seek out technologies that monitor what employees are doing online during work hours.

Managers should concentrate on outputs and outcomes instead of measuring the amount of time workers spend logged in Slack or engaging in Zoom calls. As long as work is done well and within a reasonable time frame (this is important given the circumstances of the individual), managers must now allow workers the freedom to control their work and time.

Managers must also pay attention to and respond on emotional signs that show how when the boundaries between life and work are almost gone, workers are faring.

There are likely to be more efficient and committed teams with leaders who adhere to the notion that life and work are inextricably connected from the outset. To pick up on workers taking action or to recognise signs of distress, administrators have to be extremely observant.

Remote Work Life

A lot of individuals can benefit from remote work, but it does not work for everyone. In our own company, we have examples of workers who can’t wait to get back to the workplace, whilst others enjoy the opportunity to work from home.
